In order to remedy the uneven protection of personal data in the territory of the European Union, on 27 April 2016 the Parliament and the European Council approved the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679, which will be applicable from 25 May 2018 in each of the Member States, with the consequent overcoming of the national laws on the matter.
